Thank you for your interest in Lenexa Baptist Church’s Pastoral Intern program. It’s our great joy to partner with local seminary students. Our desire is to provide students with real ministry experience that coincide with your theological training.

The mission of the pastoral internship is to equip seminary students through direct pastoral mentorship for mobilization into ministry around the globe.

We believe God calls churches to prepare young men for a life-time of dedicated ministry service. We seek to accomplish this with our intern program at a high level of excellence. Lenexa Baptist has a number of campuses throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area which offers our interns a variety of ministry outlets and experiences.

You will want to be sure to read our Pastoral Internship booklet that explains how the program works and what our expectations are for our interns. To begin the process, simply complete the application and returning it to Lenexa Baptist Church.

Personal Mentorship

Interns will be assigned and have the opportunity to be mentored by a member of the pastoral staff. This relationship is intended to teach the intern keys to both public and behind the scenes ministry, as well as challenge them in their personal spiritual growth.

Coinciding with these mentor relationships are weekly training sessions with all the interns designed to focus on both the spiritual and the practical aspects of different ministry fields. Each session will be led by a pastoral staff member and will cover a wide range of topics essential to pastoral ministry.

Ministry Experience

The unique element of this internship is the immersion into hands-on ministry experience. This experiential training consists of a variety of ministry assignments that are essential to the life of the church.

Interns are trained in how to conduct hospital visits, home visits, evangelistic outreach, the delivery of sermons and much more.

Project Leadership

Each intern has the opportunity to organize, plan and lead ministry projects. These are larger assignments that extend beyond the normal, everyday tasks of the church; yet are essential to the effectiveness of ministry.

Projects range from community outreach events to leading international mission trips and everything in-between. Each project requires and reinforces a detailed and organized approach that is essential to effective ministry.

Expectations

  • Make a one-year commitment to the internship, which may be renewed for a second year at the discretion of LBC
  • Make a diligent commitment to the completion of seminary studies and to the Pastoral Intern Program that would prevent any other form of employment
  • Be available to assist in other ministry areas as needed

Qualifications

  • Exhibit continual spiritual growth
  • Have assurance of God’s call to ministry
  • Be a Master’s-level student at an approved conservative seminary
  • Display a strong work ethic
  • Act with humility in the workplace and in the classroom
  • Become a member of Lenexa Baptist Church
