Kelly Hughes joined the staff at Lenexa Baptist Church in December of 2000. Kelly has a degree from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri and a Master’s Degree from Purdue University. He and his wife, Pam, have two children, Andy and Jamie.
Kelly trusted Christ as his Savior and was baptized as a young teen, but did not experience true spiritual growth until he rededicated his life to the Lord while attending a revival meeting some years later. Kelly writes, “Since then God has brought me along a step at a time in how He has used me and drawn me closer to Him and to His work.”
In the fall of 1998, Kelly began to sense that God was calling him into something new. At that time, he had enjoyed a successful career at AT&T for 19 years, and had plans to continue in the corporate world for another 10 to 15 years. But as God gradually guided him through various aspects of ministry at Lenexa Baptist Church, he began to realize what God had in mind was a big change, a call into a life of full-time service and ministry.
While participating in an “Experiencing God” study with a small group of men, he surrendered to full time ministry not knowing that God’s call would ultimately lead him to serve at Lenexa Baptist Church. God worked out every detail in His own timing, and Kelly was later called to his current position.
Kelly has a heart for evangelizing our community with the message of John 8:12 where Jesus says:
“I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Kelly oversees the Missions and Cares ministries at LBC. His passion is to help people of all ages and at every stage of life make friends, enjoy fellowship and learn from God’s Word.
