Special Needs Buddies

Serve on a 1:1 ratio with a child with special needs to provide assistance, support, and friendship during services on Sunday. Volunteers are currently needed for a variety of ages, one time a month at 9:30 and/or 11:00. No experience required! More information and training will be provided where needed.

Kidz Ministry Check-in Team

First impressions are so important! When a family visits our church we want to make sure that we have friendly, helpful people to greet them and assist as they get their kids checked-in and to the correct room.  Additional volunteers are needed for both 9:30 and 11:00 services.  Help us make a great first impression!

Early Childhood Prep and Set Up Team

There are many ways to serve that don’t actually involve kids! Lots of cutting, counting, sorting and prepping goes into getting each week’s Early Childhood lesson ready.  We have a team of adults that help with a variety of prep tasks behind the scenes each week.  We also have a team that helps get our classrooms set up and ready to go.  Like to decorate? We are looking for a team to help decorate our clubhouse each month to go along with our theme.  We would love to help you find a place to get involved.

Early Childhood Classroom Volunteers

Our Early Childhood Volunteer team is made up of adults and youth that love young children and want to help kids learn these three basic truths: God Made Me, God Loves Me, Jesus Wants to be my Friend Forever. Each week we use songs, games, crafts, stories and sensory activities to share basic Biblical truths and stories.  As a classroom volunteer you will receive an email each week you serve outlining what our lesson and activities will be for the upcoming Sunday so you can read over before you come. When you arrive in your classroom all the activities and supplies will be ready for you so you can jump in and have fun interacting with the kids. When you say YES to serving with the Early Childhood team, you say yes to lots of hugs, high-fives, giggles and silly stories.  Will you join us?

LBC Kidz Volunteers

We need you!  We have openings for volunteers on a monthly and weekly basis in every area ranging from birth – 5th grade!  We want you to partner with us as we partner with parents to make excited disciples!

Special Needs

The Special Needs ministry desires to provide a safe and secure environment for an individual with special needs to learn God’s word while the parents worship at Lenexa Baptist Church.

Learning opportunities

The Special Needs Ministry of Lenexa Baptist Church focuses on ministering to children with identified special needs through a Sunday School ministry while parents attend worship or are serving within the church. We currently offer a Sunday School class at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. for individuals from pre-k through his/her final year in high school.

We also have buddies for adults whose parents have requested their child attend the worship service accompanied by a volunteer.

Special Needs childcare is not available at other times or in other ministry areas including special events except Vacation Bible School (for K-5th grade students). However, we will try to make accommodations for other opportunities as volunteers become available. Please address this desire with the special needs coordinator. Otherwise, the parent(s) may stay with their child during those ministry times provided that the child is within the age or grade range for the ministry and the child is exhibiting appropriate behavior during that ministry event.

Guidelines for volunteers

Our staff in the special needs area consists of and is defined as volunteers that love children with disabilities, but may not have formal special needs training. However, all volunteers that work in the special needs ministry are required to go through a mandatory training on special needs ministry and how to work with children with special needs.

We welcome you to Lenexa Baptist Church and look forward to meeting you!

Kids

LBC Kids Ministry partners with parents to create EXCITED DISCIPLES for God’s Kingdom and His glory.  We believe the church and family should work together to raise the next generation of Christians.  The Kidz Ministry is a step on the WayPoint path to spiritual maturity.

Our strategy to partner with parents involves four main ministry programs:

  • Sunday morning large group worship
  • Sunday morning small group (Sunday School)
  • Wednesday Night Children’s Discipleship/Awana
  • Wednesday night worship

In order to tailor our programs to the needs of each age group, our ministry is structured as follows:

  • Early Childhood – ages 6 weeks – PreK
  • Elementary– Kindergarten – 5th grade

K – 5th Grade

We provide a fun environment where your child will learn to navigate God’s Word, apply it to their lives, and begin to shape a Biblical worldview.  Kidz will be led in worship, taught from God’s Word, begin to memorize Scripture, and make decisions based on what God’s Word says.  We will help them: Know God, Make Jesus Known, and Establish a Biblical Worldview.

Discipleship Opportunities

Early Childhood

Our Early Childhood ministry provides a safe and fun place where your young child will be introduced to Jesus in a way that they can understand.  From the very beginning our volunteers begin to share these basic truths with your child through songs, stories, games and art each week they come to class: God Made Me, God Loves Me, and Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

CHECK-IN

All parents must check in their child using the computer system at the check in desk.  Your child’s nametag will tell you which classroom they are assigned to.  Please check with a staff member at the desk if you feel there is an error in the room assignment.

CLASSROOMS

Our classes are open every Sunday and Wednesday beginning 15 minutes prior to regularly scheduled church services and special events as announced. Children are assigned to a classroom based on their date of birth and physical development for infants. The  assigned room number will appear on the child’s nametag.

DIAPER BAGS

If your child is not fully potty trained, please send a diaper bag that includes two or three diapers, a change of clothes and a bottle or sippy cup according to your child’s needs. Please make sure to label ALL items including bottles, cups & pacifiers.

SAYING GOODBYE

In most cases it is best to say a quick goodbye to your child and then leave the room.  Separation anxiety is very common in this age group but usually lessens with time and consistent attendance.  Our teachers will do their best to help your child transition but if they are unable to help them calm down after 5-10 minutes we will notify you by texting your cell phone.

SNACKS

Our classrooms are stocked with Cheerios, Ritz Crackers and Goldfish for snacks.  If your child needs a special snack due to food allergies please send one in a container labeled with the child’s name.

NURSING MOMS AREA

There is a nursing moms room upstairs in the hallway near the adult Sunday School rooms.
