Talk with the Doc | Dr. Stephen Hunsley / 9:30 am
Only 11% of evangelical churches have special need ministries but 19% of Americans are classified as a person with a disability. Statistics also say 90% of those Americans do not attend church. (Statistics from: & TheInclusiveChurch.com)
- What do you do when a guest visits your church who has a special need?
- How do you properly handle or prevent a child having a meltdown?
- Are there steps our church can take to reach special needs individuals with the Gospel?
- What are the keys to assisting families with special needs?
This session offers information and insight to help educate and prepare churches to better minister to families with special needs. You’ll receive tools and resources necessary to making Sunday School and Church a success for every person with or without special needs.
Dr. Stephen Hunsley had a five year old son with autism who has gone to be with the Lord. Doc, launched the SOAR (Special Opportunities, Abilities, and Relationships) special needs ministry and has a passion to help others begin special needs ministries within their churches. SOAR now serves over 650 individuals with special needs through weekend church programming, family support groups, and regular respite events. SOAR also has adult programming on the weekend, a VBS, and a Special Needs Day Camp in the summer.
